Take Root

The Sycamore Education Foundation will once again be hosting its annual fundraiser “Take Root” from 6:00-11:00 PM on Saturday, September 14. The event will be hosted by the Ward family at Dayton Farms in Sycamore. Food by Catering by Diann, drinks and refreshments provided by Shelly’s Lounge, live music, live auctions, silent auctions, and great community spirit await all attendees! All proceeds benefit the Education Foundation, which in turn grants the proceeds right back to the district via grant requests submitted by staff and teachers. Newspaper Club

Attention all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders: Do you have creative ideas? Do you like to write or draw? The Spartan Ink newspaper club needs you! This is your chance to make new friends and have fun. Please stop by Mrs. Peck’s room for an info sheet. The next meeting will be held Wednesday, September 11 at 3:00-3:45 PM in Mrs. Peck’s room. Join the club and help create a fun Halloween Spartan Ink issue! 


Builders Club

Builders Club – a service organization – will have its first meeting on Thursday, September 12 at 7:35 AM in room 327. If you are interested in joining the club please attend this meeting. All grades may join this club. Starting next week, the meetings will be on Tuesday mornings.


Interact Club

Interact is back! In association with Rotary, Interact helps raise money for great causes and cleans up the community. It’s a great way to participate in the town of Sycamore and get some community service hours while you’re at it! Interact meets the second Thursday of the month at 3:00-5:00 PM in Mrs. Gerdes room.


Run-A-Thon Volunteers

SMS Parents, we are looking for some volunteers to help out on Run-A-Thon day (Wednesday, September 25). No experience is needed; we will train on site. There will be shifts by grade level, and times would be the following: 8th Grade at 8:20-10:30 AM, 7th Grade at 10:35 AM -12:45 PM, 6th Grade at 12:50-3:00 PM. Please contact Sandy Pritchett (spritche@syc427.org) if you would like to volunteer this year.


The MS Minute

The MS minute is a student directed announcement show produced by our 7th grade introduction to journalism and broadcasting classes. Announcement shows will be sent out via the middle school parent communication email, Twitter, and Instagram every Monday and Thursday morning. Please Follow us on Twitter or Instagram @sycomsnews!! 7th Grade Math Help

7th grade math help is back by popular demand! Come get help or just have a place to work at 3:00-4:00 PM. See Mrs. Bolda or Ms. Kreinbrink with any questions.


8th Grade Math Help

Is your student struggling in class? Need homework help? Need help with quiz corrections? Mr. Knoblock, Mrs. Newborgh/Pawlowski, and Mrs. Peterson will be offering FREE after school tutoring on Wednesdays from 3:00-4:30 PM in the 8th grade ELA. Honors students from the high school will also be volunteering their time to help eighth graders in need, particularly in math. 8th graders will have an opportunity to meet upperclassmen and build relationships, which will ease their transition into high school. This service will begin Wednesday, September 11 and continue weekly.


PTO Dance

The first PTO Dance of the year for Sycamore Middle School students will be Friday, September 13, from 7:00PM-9:00PM. Doors will close promptly at 7:30PM, and students are asked to stay the entire time. Pizza and other snacks will be available to purchase during the event. The cost is $5 with a student ID, $10 without. Replacement IDs can be purchased in the main office through Friday morning.

PTO Staff Lunches

Each month, the PTO sponsors a lunch for over 100 staff members at SMS. This month’s lunch is on Wednesday, September 18. If you are interested in helping out by donating or volunteering your time, please sign up here


Health Information

6th grade students and new, out-of-state students to Sycamore Middle School are required to have a physical on file with the school nurse no later than 8:15 AM on Tuesday, October 1, 2019. If records have not been received by this date, students will not be allowed to remain in school until these records have been returned to the school nurse.
