We had a gorgeous day last week for the Run-A-Thon. Your student should have brought home their pledge sheet; students may bring in their pledges this week. The last day to turn in pledges to qualify for the prizes is Thursday, October 10. If you are looking for more information or additional pledge sheets, please visit the Run-A-Thon page.

Report Cards

The first quarter ends on Thursday, October 10 (and there is no school on Friday, October 11). Have you and your student checked his grades on the Campus Portal? Report cards will not be printed and distributed this year. They can be viewed and/or printed on the Campus Portal. First quarter grades will be available on Friday, October 25. If you need a printed copy, please contact the main office at (815) 899-8182.

Boys Basketball

For 7th and 8th grade boys interested in trying out for basketball, there will be an informational meeting on Friday, October 4 at 7:50 AM in their respective ELAs. Tryouts will take place on October 14, 15, and 16 at 3:10-5:30 PM. Athletes need to have a physical on file and register on 8 to 18 before tryouts. Students must be signed up on 8to18 and have an updated physical on file before tryouts.

Engineering Club

Is your student interested in Robotics and Coding? They are invited to come and join us for the fall session of Engineering Club. Meetings will take place on Tuesdays at 3:15-5:00 PM in the Exploration and Innovation Lab (Room 336). The meeting dates are: October 8, 22, and 29, November 5 and 12, and December 3, 10, and 17. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Boltz.

Spartanettes Dance Clinic

Dance Team Invites all children in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade to participate in FAME with The Spartanettes clinic on Tuesday, October 15 at 4:30-7:00 PM in the Sycamore High School Main Gym. The cost includes a shirt and a snack. Little dancers will perform during half-time on Friday, October 18 at the Freshman game which begins at 5:00 PM. All dancers will receive free admission. More specific information will be given on the day of the clinic. 

You must register students for this event. Please mail before Monday, October 7 to order and receive a shirt. Your child is not guaranteed a shirt if not pre-registered. All questions or concerns may be addressed to Coach: Kelly Bolander Meyers, (815) 757-6293 or kbolander@syc427.org.

Scholastic Bowl Team

Does your student like trivia? Your student is invited to display their knowledge of random facts at the Scholastic Bowl Tryouts on Tuesday, October 8 at 3:00-4:30 PM. Tryouts are open to 6th, 7th, and 8th Graders in room 807. Please contact Mr. Knoblock (jknobloc@syc427.org) if you have any questions.

Picture Retakes

If your student needs to do a retake, they will be on October 4. Please have your student bring the pictures with them. If students were not here on the first day of school, they will need to come and get their pictures taken that day as well.


Tryouts are right around the corner for 7th and 8th graders. There is a Parent and Athlete meeting on Thursday, October 3 at 6:00 PM in the middle school cafeteria. Tryout practices are Monday, October 7 and Tuesday, October 8 at 3:15-5:30 PM. Official Tryouts are Wednesday, October 9 at 3:15-5:30 PM. Students must be signed up on 8to18 and have an updated physical on file before tryout practices. Please contact mhampson@syc427.org with any questions.

Dance Team

Dance Team tryouts are also coming up for 7th and 8th Graders. There will be an Athlete informational meeting on Wednesday, October 2 at 7:45 AM at SMS. Tryouts are October 8, 9, and 10 at 3:15-4:45 PM. Students must be signed up on 8to18 and have an updated physical on file before tryouts. Please contact amathews@syc427.org with any questions.


Inktober is back! Any artwork containing ink can be submitted to this art show! When your student’s ink based artwork is completed, please have them submit it to the art room. Submissions are due Wednesday, October 2. If you have any questions please ask Mrs. Katz or Ms. Meserole!

Sycamore Park District – No School Day Trip

Take a trip with the Sycamore Park District to Epic Air trampoline park in South Elgin, Illinois on Friday, October 11. Your student can take their pick from open jump court, long tracks, foam pit, dodgeball court and cageball – free bounce around the different areas for 2 hours. Participants are encouraged to bring a packed lunch or money for food. Fee includes admission into Epic Air Trampoline Park, transportation to and from the park, and free open gym if they choose once we arrive back at the community center. Register here!

Health Information

6th grade students and new, out-of-state students to Sycamore Middle School are required to have a physical on file with the school nurse no later than 8:15 AM on Tuesday, October 1, 2019. If records have not been received by this date, students will not be allowed to remain in school until these records have been returned to the school nurse.
