This is the last week for students to turn in their pledges from the Run-A-Thon! If they want to qualify for the prizes, they must turn the money in to the main office by Thursday, October 10. Remember that there is no school on Friday, October 11!!! Only team members who participate in the fundraising portion of this event will be awarded the team prize. Individual commission winners and team winners are not eligible to win “Everyone can be a winner” money. Report Cards

The first quarter ends on Thursday, October 10 (and there is no school on Friday, October 11). Have you and your student checked grades on the Campus Portal? Report cards will not be printed and distributed this year. They can be viewed and/or printed on the Campus Portal. First quarter grades will be available on Friday, October 25. If you need a printed copy, please contact the main office at (815) 899-8182.

PTO Staff Lunch

Each month, the PTO sponsors a lunch for over 100 staff members at SMS. This month’s lunch is on Wednesday, October 16 (Tailgate Time with lots of appetizers and dips). If you are interested in helping out by donating or volunteering your time for set-up and clean-up, please sign up here

Engineering Club

Is your student interested in Robotics and Coding? They are invited to come and join us for the fall session of Engineering Club. Meetings will take place on Tuesdays at 3:15-5:00 PM in the Exploration and Innovation Lab (Room 336). The meeting dates are: October 8, 22, and 29, November 5 and 12, and December 3, 10, and 17. Scholastic Bowl Team

Does your student like trivia? Your student is invited to display their knowledge of random facts at the Scholastic Bowl Tryouts on Tuesday, October 8 at 3:00-4:30 PM. Tryouts are open to 6th, 7th, and 8th Graders in room 807. Please contact Mr. Knoblock (jknobloc@syc427.org) if you have any questions.


Tryout practices are Monday, October 7 and Tuesday, October 8 at 3:15-5:30 PM. Official Tryouts are Wednesday, October 9 at 3:15-5:30 PM. Students must be signed up on 8to18 and have an updated physical on file before tryout practices. Please contact mhampson@syc427.org with any questions.

Dance Team

Dance Team tryouts are also coming up for 7th and 8th Graders. Tryouts are October 8, 9, and 10 at 3:15-4:45 PM. Students must be signed up on 8to18 and have an updated physical on file before tryouts. Please contact amathews@syc427.org with any questions.

Boys Basketball

Tryouts will take place on October 14, 15, and 16 at 3:10-5:30 PM. Athletes must be signed up on 8to18 and have an updated physical on file before tryouts.

Spartanettes Dance Clinic

Dance Team Invites all children in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade to participate in FAME with The Spartanettes clinic on Tuesday, October 15 at 4:30-7:00 PM in the Sycamore High School Main Gym. The cost includes a shirt and a snack. Little dancers will perform during half-time on Friday, October 18 at the Freshman game which begins at 5:00 PM. All dancers will receive free admission. More specific information will be given on the day of the clinic. 

You must register students for this event. Please mail before Monday, October 7 to order and receive a shirt. Your child is not guaranteed a shirt if not pre-registered. All questions or concerns may be addressed to Coach: Kelly Bolander Meyers, (815) 757-6293 or kbolander@syc427.org.

Book Fair

Make your calendars! The Hocus Pocus Book Fair is coming soon and we will transform the library into our very own book store. There you will find hundreds of books from new and favorite authors, popular series, cool posters and school supplies, and fun for everyone! The Hocus Pocus Book Fair will be here from Wednesday, October 30th to Tuesday, November 5th and everyone is invited! As always, we need volunteers. We will once again have Donuts with Dad, Lunch with GRANDS, and a Family Fun Night. Stay tuned for more information! 

Sycamore Park District – No School Day Trip

Head west ‘til you reach the big ‘ol Miss and spend the day outdoor rock climbing with Outdoor Adventures along its bluffs. Enjoy the gorgeous scenery and learn new skills. Instruction is provided and the trip is perfect for beginning climbers. Registration includes climbing equipment (harness and shoes) as well as transportation and picnic lunch in Savanna, Illinois.
