Student Council is sponsoring a food drive to support the Spartan Pantry at West Elementary School. It will run this week through December 14. Non-perishable food items and personal care items (toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant) are appreciated. There is a collection box in each ELA.

Get your gifts wrapped on Tuesday, December 18 from 3:15PM-5:30PM at SMS! For a third year, students will be running a gift wrapping event to benefit Teule, a children’s home in Kenya. The funds raised will be used to purchase school uniforms. For every $20 donated, we can purchase a school uniform for a child! To learn more, contact Megan Gallagly at mgallagly@syc427.org

The electric car competition sponsored by Argonne National Laboratory and CNH Industries is back! If you have any questions or missed the meeting, please see Mr. Boltz.

If you are interested in helping the PTO by providing assistance at the next PTO Teacher luncheon on December 19, please click here.

If you are interested in helping the PTO by chaperoning or providing treats for the treat table at the next dance on Friday, January 11, please click here.

There will be an informational meeting about 7th grade girls basketball tomorrow, Tuesday, December 11, in the 7th grade ELA at 7:50AM. 8th grade girls who want to participate, but missed the meeting, see Mr. Miller. All students wishing to participate in tryouts must have a current physical on file and be registered on 8to18.com before the first day of tryouts on Monday, December 17.

The Spartan Food Pantry located at West Elementary School is open this Wednesday from 4:30PM-6:30PM. The Pantry is open to any family that has a student attending a Sycamore School. Just bring a photo ID.

The pantry is a choice-pantry that offers frozen foods (burgers, chicken tenders, other meats), fresh produce, dairy products, canned goods, snacks, treats, and much more. Families can come to the pantry every time it is open and choose what items they would or would not like to take. The next one is December 26.

At least every other year, districts throughout Illinois are asked to participate in the 5Essential survey to gather information from our faculty, students and parents to gain insight in the key components of all successful schools. These areas include effective leaders, collaborative teachers, involved families, supportive environments, and ambitious instruction.

The results of the survey responses are reported back to the schools for their review and planning for future school improvement focus items within the five areas.

We need your assistance and your feedback. As a district, we have chosen to provide the opportunity for you, the parents/guardians of our students, to offer us feedback via the 5Essentials parent survey. The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete and can be completed on your smart device.

Your participation in the parent survey will help us understand the conditions here at the school and guide improvement. Your identity and individual survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.

To take the survey, click here.

For more information about the Illinois 5Essentials Survey, please visit https://illinois.5-essentials.org.

Thank you, in advance, for your time and participation.
