Eighth Grade – Journey

We have a wide range of teaching experience and we look forward to assisting your child as she/he meets the challenges of 8th grade. We’ve included some informational items below to help your family become acquainted with team procedures.

Contact Times

Team teachers are typically available for phone calls between 7:50-9:30 AM. Feel free to contact us as needed. The school phone number is (815) 899-8170. In addition, each teacher also can be contacted by email using the staff directory. To facilitate communication, please use the following guidelines.

Concerns that impact your child in all core classes should be directed to the Team Leader, Jake Brens.  Every attempt will be made to respond to your request as soon as possible.

Concerns that impact your child in a specific class should be directed to that individual teacher.

Late Work Policy/Absences/Homework Site

All work is expected to be handed in on time in order to maximize the level of learning that takes place during class time. Increased rigor at the 8th grade level also means an increase in the negative impact that late or missing work has on a student’s learning progression.  Late work will be accepted, but teacher discretion will dictate credit awarded to assignments not completed on time.  Missing work and late work due to absences can be acquired by reading assignments posted in the classroom during the following day or by discussing these matters with teacher upon returning to school. Students are responsible for contacting teachers to discuss making up these assignments. Long-term projects/assignments (assigned well ahead of the absence) are due on the day the student returns.

Homework Reminders

Students are expected to record academic information (homework, upcoming quizzes and tests, projects, etc.) in their Assignment Notebooks. Our primary mode of communication related to homework, field trips, and other team news will be through our School Messenger app. These messages will be sent to the email we have on file for you.

Campus Parent Portal

Your child’s graded work is a good indicator of performance in each class. Please use our Parent Portal to review your child’s grades on a regular basis. Mid-term reports will no longer be mailed to your home, so regular checks of your child’s progress will help to ensure his or her success. If you have concerns, it is a good idea to call or e-mail the individual teacher.

Help Sessions

Teachers will inform the students weekly about the times they will be available before and after school for additional help. Students may also request an appointment with the teachers.

We look forward to having an enjoyable and positive year with your child.
