2022 Illinois Youth Survey: Eighth Graders

In May, all eighth graders will take the Illinois Youth Survey (IYS). The purpose of the IYS is to better understand youth attitudes and behaviors that can impact student problems and academic success. It will ask about topics including nutrition, physical activity, bullying, tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use. Students will be asked to complete a survey (with no names or identification numbers) that will be confidentially administered during one class period. The survey is completely voluntary and privacy will be strictly protected. If you do not want your student to participate, please print this Parent Notification Letter and return it to Ms. Frankiewicz by Friday, May 13, 2022.

Yearbook Orders — Order Online by April 22

The last day to order a yearbook online for $27 is Friday, April 22! The school code is 16551. Beginning next week, students may order yearbooks in the main office. The price will increase to $30, and supply will be limited. (If you need to see if you already ordered a yearbook, please click on the link below and enter the school code. It will give you an option to “Find Your Order.”)

April PTO Lunch

Sycamore Middle School PTO would like to provide staff with lunch throughout the year. Almost 100 staff and teachers at SMS look forward to this event each month. We are providing Deli Delights on Thursday, April 21!

Shrek the Musical JR.

Save the date! SMS will present Shrek the Musical JR. on Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30 in the Auditorium at SHS at 7:00 PM. Tickets may be purchased in the office beginning on Friday. Tickets may also be purchased online.

High School Cheer Team

There will be tryouts for the SHS Cheer Team on May 10 and 11 from 6:00-9:00 PM in the Field House at Sycamore High School. Current 8th graders may try out for next year’s high school team.

• Open Gyms will take place at SHS Field House from 6:00-8:00 PM on April 14, 21, and 28 and May 5.
• A mandatory Informational meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 3 in the SHS Cafeteria at 7:00 PM.
• Athletes must be registered on 8to18 prior to attending any open gyms or tryouts. 
• Tryout material will be posted on the evening of Sunday, May 8 on the Sycamore Cheerleading YouTube Channel.

High School Dance Team

Tryouts for the SHS Dance Team will take place on Thursday, May 12. Tryout routine days will take place Monday, May 9 and Tuesday, May 10. Current 8th graders may try out for next year’s high school team. Please contact Kelly Meyers for more information including the location and times.

Attendance

It is the responsibility of the families to call in when their student will be absent, will be picked up early, or is coming in late. Please email ms-attendance@syc427.org or call (815) 899-8182. Make sure to include your student’s full name and grade and describe the symptoms if your student is ill. We do have voice mail, so you can even call the night before if your child has an appointment. All unreported absences will be marked unexcused. When a student reaches five unexcused absences, they can be referred to truancy.

Market Day is Back!

Market Day is back at SMS and now ships directly to your house. No more scheduling a pick up time or waiting in line to get your order. Please follow the directions on the attached flyer. Just register, pick our school, and shop! 10% of each order will be given back to our school. Please make sure to select Sycamore Middle School PTO.
